Writing for an audience of one

I started writing like most people in grade school. I learned letters, then words, then sentences, paragraphs, and ultimately how to string them all together into something meaningful.

I hated it.

It felt forced. There was no right answer and the grading was subjective. Grammar rules made no sense to me.
