Why I’m Writing For The Internet

I write FOR the internet.

Sounds weird, doesn’t it?

That’s feels a lot like saying I’m going to write for the people of the city of Atlanta. Even the city of Atlanta has more focus than “The Internet.”

But here’s what I mean:

If you happen to be reading this (btw — thank you), you are a part of the internet. And here’s what I know about you — you have a short attention span. And capturing and keeping attention in a distracted world is, in my view, the key to learning how to influence change and generate interest in ideas.

This is a skill I want to develop.

Here are a few reasons why:

  1. Writing online forces you to get over yourself — You have to get over the fear of publishing and ship your work. I’m a chronic worrier of “what will people think”, and by developing a habit of writing publicly I believe I can and will get over that.
  2. Writing (and writing in general) forces you to clarify your thinking — I have lots of thoughts, but they only make sense to me. I want to develop the habit of turning my thoughts into ideas that can be useful to YOU the reader.
  3. Writing online builds a web and library of content — The more I write, the more my library of content grows. My hope…
