What are you up in the air about?
Why you should choose to stay in the game
On a run, I jumped over a sticker bush to avoid being stuck.
Mid-air, I realized there was an oncoming car.
Mid-air, I was immobile.
Mid-air, I had no options to act.
Mid-air, I was at the whim of external forces.
The car moved and I landed without a scratch, but in the moment I realized when you are up in the air you take yourself out of the game.
Even the most gravity defying basketball players put themselves in a place of vulnerability when their feet leave the ground.
In business when you refuse to choose, or refuse to take a side, you are up in the air.
It feels safe.
It seems like being in the air you can avoid the pesky thorn bushes biting at your ankles. But you’re ineffective, meanwhile the choosers are in control.
In the moment, choosing pain seems counter intuitive, but even suffering can lead to joy. Just ask any woman that’s experienced labor pain and subsequently held their child.
So…
What are you in the air about?
What are you choosing not to choose?
Where have you taken yourself out of the game?
It might be worth getting stuck instead.
