I spent my summers as a kid with my family on Lake Burton in the North Georgia mountains. We would pack up on a Friday and spend the weekend boating, grilling and getting sun-burned.

I learned to water ski on that lake. Dad would pull me around the lake in circles until my arms got tired.

When it was time to quit, he would go full speed right past the dock and trust that I would let go of the rope and not slam into…
