Have you ever been a member of a team that was mis-aligned?

Deadlines slip, projects are delayed, and stakeholders are unhappy.

In a mis-aligned team, people often feel unappreciated and discouraged. And it’s difficult to get work done, because there’s no shared vision or sense of purpose.

When building new products, software development teams can often be some of the most mis-aligned, but it can happen in any group of people.

Here are two common reasons teams lose their way, and how to address them.

Misunderstanding expectations

Tension comes from misunderstanding.

Developers, managers and users are all in different roles, but they’re all trying to achieve the same goal — high quality software that meets the user’s needs.

This is where a team’s vision and goals come into play.
