In this article I’m going to outline everything you need to consider before hosting a large virtual meeting.

The first thing you need to know before getting started is that a large virtual meeting where you have multiple presenters and an audience of more than 100 people in attendance is that your virtual meeting is not actually a meeting, it’s an event.

Running an event is similar to preparing for a meeting, but there are important differences. In a meeting, people show up to participate in a conversation, to be informed or to make decisions. People show up to an event to learn, to be entertained, to connect and to consume. Both meetings and events have an agenda and goals, but an event is an experience.

People have different expectations when they join an event. This guide will help you to prepare for those expectations.

To help you reframe your thoughts when it comes to preparing for your event, we are going to refer to your meeting, as a “Show”. You can also think of your attendees as your audience. You are the producer. Your audience will be viewing your show by appointment. And just like any good production company your show will be available after its original air date, but your goal will be to create a strong desire in your audience to attend the show…
