A few years ago I set a goal to run a marathon. My buddy and I planned to run the Chicago Marathon together. I was super pumped about it. The windy city in October, beautiful weather and running with a good friend. My vision was to run this race, crush it and qualify for the Boston Marathon.

And then I did what most people would consider crazy, I ran the marathon without training one iota. Guess how much I loved the plane ride back to Atlanta from Chicago? I’m pretty sure it took me almost as long to get out of the airport as the plane ride did. My legs were so sore! It took me a whole year to get back to running after that.

My next attempt included running 3 miles every day with a long run on the weekend. I was constantly sore. My left knee hurt on Wednesday, my hamstring hurt on Saturday and my head hurt on Sunday. I started strong but quickly gave up. Another 6 months on the…
