Me: What do you have going on this afternoon?

Friend: Not much, I’ve got a call at 4, but other than that I just have to make sure my new dog goes out. He’s a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy. You wouldn’t believe how much this dog poops.

Me: A lot huh?

Friend: Yea. It’s crazy. I don’t know how it works, cause he only eats a couple handfuls of food. Barely the size of my fist, but the poop is huge…and heavy. There’s no way what I’m feeding him can generate this much poop. It’s a big mystery in our house. My wife and I talk about it all the time.

Me: You should do a science experiment. Get out the scale. Write things down.

Friend: Maybe. I’m telling you man. It’s a lot.

Me: Send me a picture. Of the dog, not the poop.

I hung up the phone and laughed at the conversation. Then I got curious. Firing up google, I started to google things like “how much does a dog poop in a day”, “what if my dog is pooping more than he eats?” and “how long does it take for a dog to digest it’s food?” It was interesting stuff. You can find anything on the internet.

I didn’t solve the mystery for my friend, but I did learn that puppies do poop more, dogs poop more when they eat lower quality…
