How To Solve Any Problem (3 Steps That Actually Work)
I find that when I’m trying to solve a problem, I get overwhelmed because I’m trying to solve the entire problem at once.
What I should be doing is breaking down the problem into every little piece, and then solve each piece separately, just as if I would be trying to solve 10 different problems.
These are the 3 steps I take to solve a problem.
Step 1: Clarify the problem.
By this I mean understand what the problem is. It may sound simple, but I’ve found that we often don’t know what the problem is or even that we have a problem at all! If you don’t know what the problem is, how will you solve it?
Step 2: Identify possible causes of the problem.
Once you know what the problem is, then look at all of your possible causes and eliminate those that cannot be responsible for your problem. You’ll often find one or two causes that stand out as the primary cause of your issue.
Step 3: Determine what factors might help or hurt your chances of solving the problem.
What will help you reach your goal? What can get in your way? If there seems like there are many obstacles for you to overcome, break them down into manageable chunks and tackle them one by one.
This simple process can make you more effective at solving problems because you are developing a structured way to identify the possible causes of a problem, which will allow you to work out solutions more effectively.
