How To Tell A Story (Even When You Think You’ve Told ’Em All)
Here’s a trick I’m using to dig up personal stories:
The ABC’s and 123's
Works like a charm when you’re stuck.
You can read about it in Storyworthy, by Matthew Dicks.
But if you don’t want to spend your weekend reading the absolute best book on telling stories ever.
I’ll give you the shortcut.
Here’s how it works:
Let’s say you want to write a story.
And your mind goes blank.
That doesn’t mean you don’t have a story to tell.
It just means you haven’t fed your brain with what it needs to recall one.
All you have to do to fix this problem is this:
• Start typing A, B, C…or 1, 2, 3…
• Keep going thru the alphabet.
• Or keep counting…
• Until a story pops up.
That’s it.
It’s really that simple.
I thought it was silly until I tried it.
And guess what?
It worked.
“A…B…C…I remember when I got my first C in college. I was devastated.”
“1..2..3…4…I almost took my father-in-law’s head off with a golf ball.”
And just like that, I had two stories I could write about.
So can you!
Give it a try.
Let me know how it works.
