A Life Interrupted is One Well Conducted

For every invitation I receive, I’ve realized two things.

  1. I’m honored to be included, but
  2. I don’t want to be disrupted.

The second has driven my decisions.

It’s been the deciding factor in choosing to go to lunch with coworkers or stay at my desk, to attend a dinner party or read a book, to go on a hike or mow my lawn.

I may have been more productive, but I’ve learned that living a life interrupted is one that’s well conducted.

Each interruption leads to an unexpected path. A path with stories and laughs that one only gets when choosing to interact. Sure, it would take me longer to do the things I wanted to do, but I want adventure and spontaneity.. I could stay comfortable and sit in my house at my desk all by myself, but deep inside I know that’s not where life is.

So now with every invitation, I say no.

  • No to the inertia that so wants to keep me still.
  • No to the introvert that is only familiar with the weather.
  • No to the voice that says, you’ve got something else to do now.

I’ve seen others stay in their own little world. They are busy at hand, but lonely at heart. Perhaps why I see it is because I’ve been one of them…
