3 Tips To Cultivate And Move Toward Wisdom
--
The road to wisdom is a journey, not a destination. But every journey has a map — and once you’ve found the map, you can use it to set your own course.
Not many of us can say that the path to wisdom is an easy one. It takes time, patience, and a willingness to unlearn what we think we know about ourselves and the world around us. But cultivating wisdom is absolutely worth it in the end!
If you’re looking for wisdom in your life and aren’t sure how to find it, here are a few tips:
Be ruthlessly honest
This might seem like a no-brainer, but it’s so important! If you’re not honest with yourself about where you are right now and what parts of your life need work or change, then how will you ever get anywhere? Be honest about what’s holding you back from being wise — yourself included — and then set out to fix those things.
Only when we are willing to look at our lives without judgment or shame can we see where we’ve gone wrong or what we could do better next time around (and there will always be a next time!).
That doesn’t mean that being truthful means admitting every mistake or fault in your life! It just means being willing to see them as part of who you are right now — and then moving forward with a positive outlook on what’s next.
Ask questions constantly
You can’t learn if you don’t ask questions! Ask yourself questions about yourself and others as often as possible so that you can learn more about who they are and how they tick (and why).
And not just questions about big things like “What does it mean to be wise?” or “How am I supposed to grow as a person?” but also about small things like “Should I add more salt or pepper to this dish?” or “How did my friend’s comment make me feel?”
Asking questions is the best way to start cultivating wisdom because it keeps us engaged with our own lives and our surroundings. It helps us develop perspective, and it helps us see things from other people’s points of view too.
Listen carefully
Listen carefully when others speak their mind; don’t just tune them out because their words don’t fit with what you want to hear from them at that moment in time
Listening helps you identify your own needs and desires. It helps you understand why people behave in certain ways or why they believe what they believe. It also helps you know what actions are appropriate in different situations.
Ultimately, wisdom is a journey. It’s not something that you can just “get” by reading this post or any other. The only way to cultivate wisdom is by taking action: doing the hard work of being ruthlessly honest with yourself, asking questions constantly, and listening carefully.
