10 Topics I Plan On Learning More About in 2023:

  1. AI. There is no denying that AI is influencing the way we work today and how we will work in the future. When electricity was invented, people didn’t understand it and didn’t want it. I don’t want to be one of those people.
  2. HIIT. In 2019, my doctor told me high intensity interval training is the best way to build resilience in your body. I’m almost 50 and I’ve started to feel atrophy in my muscles. I want to be healthy well into my 90’s. Time to kick it up in the second half.
  3. OKRs. You get what you measure. This is true professionally and personally. I want to get better at understanding how to leverage data to influence outcomes.
  4. Specificity. The internet is flooded with billions of pieces of content, general and vague loses. I want to learn to drill into details that are useful for others (and me too).
  5. Vulnerability. When you are wide open and honest, anything is possible. I’ve spent a lifetime of protecting who I am. This is has hampered my relationships, my progress as a leader, and even my relationship with myself. I want to do better.
  6. Ghostwriting. I want to help smart people organize their ideas into a work of art. I get tremendous joy out of unpacking, distilling, and summarizing the ideas of others. I also like to write.
  7. Personal Accountability. “We need to hold people accountable.” I’ve heard this phrase for the last 10 years in every job I’ve held. It’s a nice way of saying, “people aren’t doing what I want them to do.” I believe there is a massive communication gap between leaders and individual contributors and I want to unpack it.
  8. First Principles Thinking. If there is a problem, yo, I’ll solve it. I want to get better (and more creative) at solving problems.
  9. Cold {Communication}. I’m an introvert. I want to get better at having “cold” conversations and I want to meet fascinating people on the internet!
  10. Problem {Noticing} Solving. Anyone can solve a problem, but the most valuable people notice problems and then solve them. I believe this is an art and a skill that takes practice.
